Tails from the Spring Tour (Round 1)
Team Red Rovers, Charles Lanyon and Armando Acosta took the inaugural West Coast Redfish tour weighing in two fish at 9.14 lbs. They had one of everyone's favorite tournament fish, a 26-3/4" just over 7 lb. fish and a lower slot red to put them in 1st.
Team E Co Consultants Jake Paris and Alec Hoffner wasn't far behind with two fish totaling 7.15. Shanghai Noon's JR Lane and Go Xayasome weighed in two fish at 5.05. They had engine trouble during their pre fish day and made the trip back home to grab another boat to make a great comeback. Team Modest Fisher, The "Lone Ranger" and ORLgheenoer weighed in one nice red weighing in at 4 lbs. The Lone Ranger made the trip all the way from Jacksonville for a 4th place finish. Team Chubby Chasers won their money in the 4th quarter. Buddy Hickman and Chase Masters made it back to the weigh-in with no fish. With 30 minutes left before the weigh-in deadline why not fish off the beach? They caught a lower slot red to put them in 5th and in the money. That was the last blow for Team "Shake and Bake". Kent Hickman and Apollo Beach Sam who had a engine problem 1st thing in the morning and that last minute fish beat out their lower slot red.
Only 6 teams weighed in fish. Overall it was a pretty tough day for most of the teams. The bite was more of a middle to late afternoon bite and the wind was up making it even tougher at times. What made the event a success with everyone was the camaraderie and the fun day of fishing. Lots of trout and other fish were caught by the teams to add to the fun. Round 2 at Cockroach Bay is looking to be a full tournament. If you are interested in fishing it don't wait to register ! Congrats to the winners and see ya at the "Roach"!!
Tails from the Spring Tour (Round 2)
Jake Paris and Alec Hoffner of Team E CO Consultants were sitting at the ramp drinking beer by 10am on tournament day. Boat trouble, too windy, too low? No they had their two winning fish (13.05) in the live well. Their fish were caught nearby wading from their NMZ gheenoe. Not far behind was Team Red Rovers at 11.14. It is looking like a showdown in Oz between E Co Consultants and Red Rovers who are tied in points for the series champions.
Team Stinky Fingers Kevin Cook and Bobby Carbonara took third with 10.10. Fourth Place was team Shake and Bake with 10lbs. and The Modest Fishers rounded out the top 5 with 9.12. We had 10 teams weighing in fish so despite the harsh winds the bite was good. The snook bite added to fun with a monster caught by Amando Acosta estimated around 40"s. The final round at Ozello should be very interesting with the locals showing up the overall championship is in reach for several teams. See ya in the "Land of Oz" on April 14th.
